Day 09. Tosantos – Atapuerca

We’re cuddled up in front of a fire in an albergue that could have easily been a rather stylish rural hotel. It’s newly open and very well organised by Estrella, who is herself a pilgrim and knows what people need and want. It is very, very nice.

They serve a three course dinner with wine and homemade natilla for dessert.

Today’s stage put us together with some of the Italians who yesterday we shared the room with. Yesterday people were in their own tighter group (because of the language and because of having walked together for a bit) and even though some speak decent English, there wasn’t much of socialising with them. Today, when we got them in pairs or one by one, it was much easier. Fantastic young people with deep thoughts about their lives. Lidia gets to practice her Duolingo Italian, and I’m thoroughly impressed once again.

Met this dude at the albergue: https://youtube.com/@frankyrider2174 – rides his bike and makes very good quality films about it.

Burgos tomorrow, we got some complicated instructions on what parts of the Camino to replace with what, there been some development, and it now goes through some horrible industrial areas, apparently – the official one. We’ll try to find the old good one.

We’re all surrounded by people who send their luggage with a service (not all, but a lot) and you know what? They are all great!

Good night.
