It is funny how we’ve never been to León before, but still I keep saying “hi” left and right, as we move through the city, and people even give me hugs occasionally. Pilgrims invade the city, but the city, it must be said, doesn’t let itself be invaded easily: unlike small villages that might try to adapt their lifestyle to pilgrims’ habits, León can’t be bothered, so there’s no food to get outside “normal” Spanish meal times.
Very beautiful ancient town. The cathedral is spectacular, look at this:

So nice. At the same time there’s a rough layer of real life going on all around. There are smells, there’s dirt, graffiti here and there. Busy place that’s been busy since the Romans were here.
Also, Gaudí built a big house here – Casa Botines. The visit inside is time well spent.
Today was a rather uneventful short day, a lot of walking next to highways and in suburban areas. Also, raining on and off for most part of the day. I keep imagining my right shoe pulling in water for some reason.
The evening here in León is buzzing with anticipation of the Spain – France semifinal (?) match, there’s a TV screen in every bar. It’s tempting to experience the togetherness through this, too, but it’s an early start tomorrow.
I’m falling asleep in the private room we have here, so that’ll be it for now, good night!
