Continental breakfast at the hotel included a “Trio de Vienne” with three microscopic pastries. Then off we go!

Saint-Jean-Pied-du-Port is surprising. It’s much smaller and much less busy than I let it become in my head. Super clean and neat, too. It is also obvious how separate they want all the pilgrim madness to be from the normal life of the town, so the old town is very much its own thing.
The pilgrims’ office is manned by helpful people, and even though we don’t ask that much and don’t have any problems to solve yet, they are happy to just chat and stamp our credencials.
Now all the transport logistics is done (the difficult part, that is) and there is nothing that separates us from the road. All is left is walk out the door, turn left and start putting one foot in front of the other. But that’s tomorrow!
